Abbey San Encino Tour
Highland Park, CA - August 21, 2011
- The Highland Park Heritage Trust held a wine and cheese
fundraiser and tour to raise funds for preservation advocacy at Abbey
San Encino. The Abbey San Encino was built by early pioneer and printer
Abbot Clyde Browne, who envisioned a lay monastery of creative
artisans. There he hoped to gather the best printers, bookbinders, and
graphic artists of his day, all of them living there and working
together. Browne was the grandfather of current resident, Severin
Browne and brother Jackson Browne. Below, at center, local historian
Charlie Fisher does docent duty as Severin and another local tour goer
listens.
