
The year 2019 closed out with top honors for local football players, college commitments for three athletes in three sports and athletic achievements by NELA alumni.
Football
Franklin quarterback Alfred Bobadilla (photo above) is the Northern League Player of the Year and the CIF L.A. City Section All-City Division II Player of the Year.
Bobadilla, a senior, led the Panthers to the Division II finals on November 30, but the team lost to Canoga Park 28-20. Still, Bobadilla passed for 3,962 yards this season, for the number one spot in the city section and 8th in the state.
Bobadilla ends his high school career with an astounding 654 completions in 1,027 attempts for 9,872 yards and 101 touchdowns. He also rushed for 948 yards and 35 touchdowns. In freshman year, when he was the starting Junior Varsity quarterback, he played 1 varsity game in which he had 1 reception for 32 yards, giving him total offensive yardage of 10,852 in his high school varsity career.

MVP Honors: Northern League MVP Offense honors went to Axel Ayers (Eagle Rock). DeAnthony Jackson (Wilson) and Christopher Martinez (Lincoln) were named MVP Defense and Hugo Escobedo (Franklin) and Aaron Duarte (Lincoln) were Lineman of the Year. Hugo Escobedo was also selected CIF L.A. City Section All-City Division II Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Winter Sports Get Underway
Boys and girls basketball played 2 league games at the end of 2019.


Girls soccer started out with a 4-1 victory by Eagle Rock over Franklin. Boys soccer, girls water polo and wrestling also began competition.

NELA Alumni Athletes Excel

In the Southern California Football Association, Franklin alum David Telles made the All-SCFA American Pacific League Football Team for the 2nd year after leading the team with 40 receptions for 446 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Sixteen players from local schools played football this past season for the Lancers of Pasadena City College. The Lancers had their best finish in 11 years, with their first above .500 season since 2008. They finished with a 6-4 record and a 2nd place showing.
