Doris Thielen, who turned 100 on February 5, died on March 11.
Mrs. Thielen, who was born in Eagle Rock and lived here her entire life, was honored by many of her friends at a tea on February 16 at the Women’s Twentieth Century Club.
I attended the tea, and was so delighted to be invited, having just a few weeks earlier interviewed Mrs. Thielen for a profile in the Boulevard Sentinel. She recounted so many of her treasured memories for me, told stories, dispensed advice and wisdom.
The themes of her life were clearly love of family, love of home, love of community, love of trees and gardens. Eagle Rock has lost a remarkable and devoted individual whose contributions to and love for Eagle Rock will be her enduring legacy.
Thank you, Mrs. Thielen.
